No. 4 Rainbows hold off UC Santa Barbara in water polo

No. 4 Hawai'i rolled out to an early lead then held on for a 7-6 victory over No. 12 UC Santa Barbara today in a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation water polo match at Santa Barbara, Calif.Hawai'i is 12-8 overall and 8-3 in the MPSF. Santa Barbara is 13-15 and 2-6.
Kelly Mason scored three goals all in the first half to help UH to a 4-1 lead. UH led 6-3 after three quarters.
Lisa Van Raalte scored off a fast break to give UH a 7-3 lead two minutes into the fourth period. The Gauchos scored three unanswered goals, but the last shot of the game a sweep shot by Sarah Kovach missed by inches, preserving UH's victory.
Brittany Dames, Amy Logan, Angela Turnbull and Lisa van Raalte also scored for the Rainbow Wahine. UH goalie Meike De Nooy made 15 saves.
Hawai'i travels to Cal State Northridge on Thursday for its final MPSF regular season match. The Rainbow Wahine close out the regular season with against Cal Baptist and Hartwick on April 14.
