Conversion of cesspools pau

Advertiser Staff

Kaua'i County has completed the replacement of several large-capacity cesspools, a project mandated by the EPA.

Among those converted are at Anahola Village Park, Kapa'a Ball Park, Kekaha Pavilion, Kukui'ula Harbor, Nawiliwili Park, Salt Pond Park and Spouting Horn Park.

"These facilities are located very close to the ocean in areas with highly porous soils," said Doug Haigh, chief of the Building Division.

"By converting them to septic tank systems, it greatly reduces the possibility of ocean and ground water pollution in these areas."

The EPA and state Department of Health helped fund the work.
