Fire damages top $1 million

One of the fires was intentionally set, another was started by a child playing with a cigarette lighter, a third by an electrical short, and another by an unattended lighted candle, said HFD spokesman Capt. Terry Seelig. The cause of a fifth fire is still under investigation, added Seelig.
The breakdown:
i April 4. Single-family home at 1222 Honokahua St. in Kalama Valley, 5:11 a.m. Caused by electrical short from appliance in the dining room. Damage is $225,000 (structure) and $75,000 (contents). Four people displaced.
i Sunday. One unit of duplex at 924 Kahikolu Place in Salt Lake, 2:44 p.m. Caused by child playing with lighter. Damage is $265,000 (structure) and $10,000 (contents). Eight people displaced.
i Tuesday. Abandoned house at 99-963A Lalawai Drive, 'Aiea, 12:46 a.m. Arson investigation by police. Damage is $185,000.
i Tuesday. Kapiolani Manor 25th-floor apartment at 1655 Makaloa St., 8:49 a.m. Caused by unattended candle burning in living room. Damage is $250,000 (structure) and ($20,000 contents).
i Tuesday. Single-family Mariner's Cove home at 6913 Niumalu Loop in Hawai'i Kai, 2:38 p.m. Fire started in kitchen, cause undetermined. Damage is $75,000 (structure) and $25,000 (contents).
