UH's Wichmann starts well in Mt. SAC heptathlon

Hawaii junior Annett Wichmann is eight points off her school-record pace after the first day of the Mt. SAC heptathlon Wednesday in Walnut, Calif.

Wichmann, attempting to qualify for the NCAA Championship a second straight year, is in sixth with 3,200 points through the first four events. She ran the 100-meter hurdles in 14.83, went 5-7fl in the high jump, 42-4fl in the shot put and closed with a 26.72 in the 200.

Teammate Mallory Gilbert has a personal-best 2,776 points after the first day of the California Invitational heptathlon, and is in 11th. She set personal heptathlon records in the shot (33-10A) and 200 (27.97), and tied her personal best in the high jump (5-7fl).
