Advertiser Staff

A 15-year-old girl was taken to Straub Clinic and Hospital this morning is serious but stable condition after being stung "pretty severely" by a box jellyfish, said Bryan Cheplic, spokesman for the city Emergency Services Department.

Paramedics were called to treat the girl about 7:25 a.m. on the beach behind the Outrigger Canoe Club at 2909 Kalakaua Ave., near Sans Souci beach park and the Natatorium War Memorial.

Cheplic said the girl experienced pronounced swelling from the sting but did not have a life-threatening allergic reaction.
