Hirono to be briefed on Bellows Beach cleanup

Congresswoman Mazie Hirono at 9 a.m. today will receive a briefing and provide an update on the request for congressional funding for the cleanup of a former landfill at Bellows Beach, a former Marine Corps training area.Bellows Beach has been identified for cleanup, but so far has lacked funding.
Hirono will visit the one-acre site where an estimated 8,500 tons of metallic debris and other materials need to be removed. Hirono's office, in a released statement, said the Hickam Environmental Restoration Program needs about $2 million to do a thorough cleanup.
Hirono has already submitted a funding request.
