Laupahoehoe pool gets $1 million for improvements

Gov. Linda Lingle released $1 million for improvements to the Laupahoehoe pool yesterday. The pool is used by students at Laupahoehoe High and Elementary School and the general public in communities from Pepeekeo to Paauilo on the Honoka'a Coast.A news release from Lingle's office said the funds will be used for the design and construction of necessary improvements to the swimming pool and related facilities at Laupahoehoe.
Improvements include pool basin resurfacing, repairs to the water filtration and circulation systems, re-roofing of and repairs to the pool house, replacement of locker facilities as well as safety modifications to starting blocks and diving boards.
Construction is expected to begin in November. The pool will close during construction.
