Local products expo in August

Local manufacturers, artists and farmers will showcase their goods Aug. 17-19 at the 2007 Made in Hawai'i Festival at the Blaisdell Exhibition Hall and Arena.

The event, produced by the Hawaii Food Industry Association and sponsored by First Hawaiian Bank, will feature 400 exhibitors of items such as food, books, gifts, plants, clothing and art.

Last year, the exhibition drew 35,000 attendees over three days and generated $3 million in sales.

The event this year runs 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Aug. 17 and 18, and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Aug. 19. Admission is $3.

Children age 6 and under are free.

KAHULUI GETS BUSINESS ACTION

The state will open its newest Business Action Center Friday at the Maui County Business Resource Center in Kahului.

The center is part of the Business Registration Division of the Department of Commerce and Consumer Affairs and helps people complete business registration, tax license and employer registration forms.

Gov. Linda Lingle and Maui Mayor Charmaine Tavares will take part in opening ceremonies set for 12:30 p.m. Friday.


KAISER EXECUTIVE TO JOIN LAW FIRM

The law firm of Goodsill Anderson Quinn & Stifel yesterday announced the hiring of veteran government relations specialist Christopher Pablo.

Pablo, who had worked for 15 years as director of government and community affairs for the Kaiser Foundation Health Plan, will join Goodsill Anderson on June 25. Prior to joining Kaiser Permanente, Pablo served as director of government relations for Hawaii Medical Services Association.
