NORTH SHORE
Contraflow lane open 24 hours

Advertiser Staff

A single contraflow lane will be in place 24 hours a day at the site of a massive rockslide near Waimea Bay.

Previously, the contraflow lane had been opened only during peak traffic hours.

Barry Fukunaga, state Department of Transportation director, said he is still tallying the cost of cleanup and does not have an estimate on how much the permanent fence will cost. He added that other projects may have to be put on hold in the short term to help pay for the cleanup and the new fence.

Also, a project to install new guard rails on Kamehameha Highway in Ka'a'awa has been postponed until both lanes are open near Waimea Bay.
