Testing week hits high gear at public schools

Advertiser Staff

If your son or daughter seems a bit anxious heading off to school, it may be because many schools will be completing the annual Hawaii State Assessment tests today and tomorrow.

Students in grades 3 through 8 and grade 10, along with some other grades in some schools, will be tested over the next two days, according to state Department of Education news release. Makeup tests will be held next week.

The DOE suggests helping your child by giving them a good breakfast and offering a calm routine this morning, putting off confrontational matters until testing is over and leaving for school a bit early to avoid rushing and traffic anxiety.

Another helpful tip from the DOE is to discuss the importance of testing, be supportive, and encourage your child to do his or her best.
