UHH's Geis honored

Hawai'i-Hilo men's soccer forward Drew Geis has been named the Pacific West Conference's Freshman of the Year.
Geis, a 2006 Kapolei High graduate, had seven goals and two assists.
Brigham Young-Hawai'i midfielder Kamuela Kamoe and Hawai'i Pacific forward Christian Clemente joined Geis on the all-conference first team.
Making the second team were: BYUH's Lance Ford and Michael Akinaka; HPU's Christian Nilsson and Michael King; Chaminade's Chad Nishikuni, and Hilo's Ryan Neill.
Earning honorable mention were: Hilo's Marc Fournier and BYUH's Kyle Young.

WICHMANN STARTS WELL
Hawai'i junior Annett Wichmann is eight points off her school-record pace after the first day of the Mt. SAC heptathlon yesterday in Walnut, Calif.
Wichmann, attempting to qualify for the NCAA Championship a second straight year, is in sixth with 3,200 points through the first four events. She ran the 100-meter hurdles in 14.83, went 5-7 3/4 in the high jump, 42-4 3/4 in the shot put and closed with a 26.72 in the 200.
Teammate Mallory Gilbert has a personal-best 2,776 points after the first day of the California Invitational heptathlon, and is in 11th. She set personal heptathlon records in the shot (33-10 1/4) and 200 (27.97), and tied her personal best in the high jump (5-7 3/4).

HPU SPLITS WITH BIOLA
Nicole Kalakau singled to right field with the bases loaded and two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning as Hawai'i Pacific rallied to beat Biola, 3-2, yesterday in the second game of a non-conference doubleheader at Sea Warrior Field.
Krystal Plunkett homered and Kalakau scored on a wild pitch in the sixth inning for the Sea Warriors (25-9), who trailed 2-0 after three innings.
In the first game, Katie Gustaveson pitched a three-hitter with five strikeouts and no walks as the Eagles (27-9) won, 1-0.
HPU's Sherise Musquiz allowed four hits, including an RBI triple by Amerra Kesterson in the fifth.
SOCCER
YOUTH CUP AT WAIPI'O
The U.S. Youth Soccer Hawai'i State Cup will be held Saturday and Sunday at the Waipi'o Peninsula Soccer Park.
Boys and girls, from under-12 to under-17, will compete for a chance to advance to the U.S. Youth Far West Regionals in Las Vegas, June 18 through 24. The regionals draws college coaches seeking potential recruits.
