Jellyfish influx closes Hanauma Bay for second day

Advertiser Staff

Lifeguards have closed Hanauma Bay for a second day today because of a box jellyfish influx, Emergency Services Department spokesman Bryan Cheplic said.

The box jellyfish were found before the bay opened, and no stings were reported.

Lifeguards were still counting the number of jellyfish coming into shore.

The situation will be assessed tomorrow morning and the decision will be made whether to open the bay to the public.

No information on other beaches was immediately available.

Box jellyfish come into certain O'ahu beaches monthly, usually on or near a full moon.
