Wai'anae High School hosting JROTC competition

Wai'anae High School JROTC will host the second annual Wai'anae Adventure Challenge today and tomorrow.

The challenge is expected to draw approximately 300 JROTC cadets from across the state who will participate in events that emphasize leadership, teamwork, motivation, physical fitness and camaraderie.

High schools participating in the event are 'Aiea, Baldwin (Maui), Campbell, Farrington, Kahuku, Kaimuki, Kaiser, Kalaheo, Kapa'a (Kaua'i), Leilehua, Moanalua, Nanakuli, Punahou, Radford, Roosevelt, St. Louis, Wai'anae, Waimea (Kaua'i) and Waipahu.

Cadets will compete in events such as water crossing, swimming, physical fitness test, rope bridge, rappelling, navigating kayaks and other challenging events. Soldiers from the 25th Infantry Division and the Hawai'i Army National Guard will be assisting.

Events will be held at Herbert K. Pililaau Army Recreation Center, 85-010 Army St. in Wai'anae; and Our Lady of Kea'au and Albert Silva Ranch, 83-300 Farrington Highway in Wai'anae.

The opening ceremonies will be held at 8:45 a.m. today at the Army Recreation Center. Events will be held there from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and include swimming, navigating kayaks, rope bridging, running, physical fitness test, water crossing and tug-of-war.
