Ching scores lone goal in Houston's 1-0 victory

Associated Press

HOUSTON — Brian Ching scored the lone goal and Pat Onstad had five saves to lead the Houston Dynamo to a 1-0 win over Chivas USA on Saturday night.

Houston (1-0-1) got its first goal of the season on a header by Ching, a Kamehameha Schools alum, in the 64th minute. After not scoring for the first 154 minutes of the season, Brad Davis centered a pass to Ching, who headed it past Chivas USA goalkeeper Brad Guzan.

Dwayne de Rosario hit the left post in the 78th minute for the Dynamo. His attempt in the 69th minute went high.

Chivas USA (1-1-0) tried to tie it late, but Galindo's shot in the 73rd minute went high, and a shot by John Cunliffe in the 80th minute was saved by Onstad.

Chivas got its best chance to score in the first half when Francisco Mendoza snuck a pass through two defenders to Bornstein, but Onstad made a diving stop on the shot to keep the game tied.
