Volunteers will work with staff of the Storm Water Quality Branch of the Department of Environmental Services to address storm water pollution prevention in Nanakuli, Kalihi, Salt Lake, Makiki and Palolo Valley.

The cleanups give students opportunities to share leadership, talk to peers and neighbors, and focus on actions that everyone can do in and around their homes to be an everyday environmental hero. Activities include storm-drain stenciling with the message "Dump No Waste, Protect Our Waters For Life," and distributing litter bags and oil-change boxes to remind residents about proper disposal, with a focus on litter and used motor oil.

Discharging pollutants to the storm drain system is against the law. Residents are asked to call the city's Environmental Concern Line at 692-5656 to report illegal discharge into the storm drain system.
