June,1984 will always stand out in my memory. I was in line for an autograph and I told Don Ho that something special had happened to me during his live TV show in 1977. I said I'll tell you about it someday. He said, "Tell me now." I looked at the line behind us. I said, now? He said, "Yes, now". He put his pencil down and leaned back to listen. I told him my story. (My sister, a Honolulu resident, had been very ill for several months. She had recently told me by phone that she was better. I saw her on the live TV show, head back laughing and having a great time, which was an answer to prayer.) He hugged and kissed me and said, "Thank you for sharing that with me. Stories like that mean so much to me". I then got my autograph, which I truly treasure.

My father Byrd Christian, who took our family to see Don Ho in 1968 on our first trip to Hawaii died on April 12, 2007 with Don Ho music playing in the background. Imagine our additional sadness to read that Don had passed away just 2 days later. That trip to Hawaii in '68 and seeing Don Ho at Duke's was the beginning of a love affair with Hawaiian music and the Islands in general, and to this day our entire family still loves Don Ho and his music. Just a few days before my father passed, he was singing "Sweet Someone" in the hospital, with my sister and me, eyes closed but never missing a single lyric. We will cherish that memory forever. Thanks Don for giving so much of yourself to your fans. I'm sure it's standing room only in Heaven for your concerts. We will miss you. Aloha Oe

A Hui Hou Don. i just wanted to say how much this legend of today will be missed. His music, Tiny Bubbles n I'll Remember You is part of the day, he's everywhere, in everyones home, kanakapila all the time. What a way to go bruddah, you left your footprints on everybodys heart. It's like the song says in Hawaiian Soul You Are The Harmony. To Hawaii's greatest legend Don Ho, gone but never will be forgotten. May Heavenly Father guide u to the Pearly Gates. My wife Sandra and I were vacationing on our 20th wedding anniversary. After a week on Maui we were determined to see the 10/03/05 Don Ho Show, reserving tickets and a room weeks in advance. Sandra had seen his show before...this was my first despite many visits to Hawaii. To assure sitting at a front table we were the third and fourth in line. Prior to the show we had our picture taken with Don and his daughter Hoku. Don was looking at me then asked, "are you a 'Local Boy'?" I said I wasn't and we all laughed. He was a treasure. After the show we sat for another picture and he again asked if I was a 'Local Boy'. No, "in spirit though", I said. Then Don said..."you beddah check with yo' faddah". Don, I'm still laughing. We love you. You have blessed us all. Aloha Ke Akua

Growing up in Kalihi and being exposed to the music of the day was a part of everyday life. Don has done so much for all musicians and entertainers that come out from the islands. He was always supportive and real. His musical style was powerful, original, honest, fun, deep, pure, cool, world-wide!...my prayers go out to the entire family..God's blessing of strength and comfort....thank you Pops for the influence and thrust you gave to all of us in entertainment..you made it look so good fun that we just wanted to have that too!!..we going miss you......i love you...Aloha, Bobby G.

I was home from Viet Nam over 30 years before anyone other than family or friends welcomed me home and thanked me for my service. Don did that! Not only to me but to every Vet who went to his shows.Hawaii lost an entertainer but the world lost a great man, a patriot, a true AMERICAN. When I get back to Hawaii in September I will still visit Don. This time I will toast to him. We are all better people having known him.

Don Ho was many things to many people: a consummate entertainer, a true patriot, a wonderful family man. More than anyone else of his generation, he symbolized Hawaii. He meant so very much to so many of us. Mahalo nui loa. A hui hou kakou. Aloha 'oe. Don Ho will always be lovingly remembered for keeping alive both the music and the spirit of the remarkably gifted Kui Lee. I know that I speak for many others when I say, with much affection, I 'll remember you, Don Ho!

Whenever you thought of Hawaii, it was an automatic response to also think of Don Ho. He spread the Aloha spirit through out the world during his life. Our hearts have a big void with his passing , but to have known him either personally or professional we are all better for this experience. He will be missed by all. My prayers and thoughts are with the family during this difficult time.

What a treasure Don Ho was in my life. From the first time I saw him perform at Duke's back in 1968, I was one of his biggest fans. I even claimed to be a TuTu once just to get a kiss from my dear Don. He was simply the best and always will be remembered for his warmth and humor, not to mention one of the most beautiful voices God ever created. I will always treasure his memory. My condolences to the family. Mahalo for sharing him with the world.

Mr. Ho! I'm so angry at you! How could you do this to me? We are planning to come to Hawaii in October and to see your show was my NUMBER 1 PRIORITY!! We were planning on coming for our 30th wedding anniversary 2 years ago but I was diagnosed with cancer and had to postpone our trip. Then last year our grandson was in a horrible accident and in a coma for a month (we didn't think he was going to make it)so again our plans were put on hold. Everything seemed to be looking up and THIS was the year and you had to go and spoil it for me. We will still come to Hawaii and hopefully I'll be able to ingest your spirit of the islands and come back home with "Tiny Bubbles" of a wonderful memory. You will be dearly missed in more ways than you can know. Our condolences to your family.

Saturday Morning,I jumped online to read the news, and i was shocked and saddened by the news of Don Ho passing away..My mom about 36 years ago always loved the song tiny bubbles and i also too loved it, I remember being a lil girl my self and singing the song,I now have a grandson of my own, ever since he was a baby baby, i used to sing him tiny bubbles or i would play it on my computer and rock him to sleep he is almost 3 years old now and he can sing parts of the song, when he comes to visit me , he says up mom, tiny bubbles that means he wants me to rock him to sleep, Anyways April 2005, I got to forfill my life long dream of going to Hawaii and going to see the Don Ho Show. I bought my mom a cd, which he gladly autographed for her and my self a tshirt. My prayers go out to his family

Our hearts go out to the Ho ohana family. We will keep you in our prayers. Your consolation is knowing what a great contribution Don's life made to so many. We met Don on a visit with our daughter, Tammy and her husband Matt. We were so impressed at his attention to Matt who is currently serving in Iraq. He singled him out of the line waiting for autographs. He talked to all of us but Matt was his center of attention. We will never forget our visit because as we walked away, we felt we had just been in the company of greatness who was so humble in praising our son-in-law for his active status in the military. Thank you, Hawai'i for giving us the enjoyment of this great entertainer and thank you to the Ho family for sharing him all these years.

Don Ho is the reason I met my husband, Joe (Jose) Pentak, Jr. I came as a tourist in 1975 & stayed at the Waikiki Village on Lewers St. Jose was working the Pat Kelley travel desk [now Outrigger Travel] at the hotel. I purchased a Don Ho Show ticket from him. Don was then performing at the Polynesian Palace on Lewers. Jose asked me for date, one thing led to another, we were married, and lived in Hawaii for many years. We visited Don's show many times & we would either thank Don or complain to him about being the reason for our marriage. Jose died in 1991, but his parents, Joe & Christie Pentak, live on Molokai. I live on the mainland now, but still maintain a residence in Hawaii. Don Ho was a gracious man and Hawaii has lost a true treasure. He was Mr. Hawaii to the world. Aloha, Don.

My condolences to the family of Mr. Don Ho. Don Ho has been an inspiration to me for 40 years as I looked up to him because of his charasmatic nature and magical wit about him. My Dad would visit Honey's where he entertained along with many of my classmates parents and all of whom resided in Kaneohe. Don Ho put Kaneohe on the map and has inspired many. I still am inspired by his music because it portrayed that Happy go Lucky Lifestyle and one that will always lift you when you are feeling blue. He reminds me so much of Kui Lee and why he has been a great inspiration too. He is my childhood friends Dad yet his music and legacy lives on. Don Ho's charisma has touched so many and it is evident by the many mainlanders that equate Hawaii with Don Ho and his high spirit and charm

I was on a Hawaiian tour in the summer of 2006, but I never got a chance to see a Don Ho show. I was determined that the next time I came to Hawaii, that I would see one. Now it is too late, but I did purchase a "Don Ho Gold" CD while I was in Kona. When I heard about his death, I felt like my heart dropped to the bottom of my stomach. Hopefully, the Beachcomber in Waikiki will continue to play his music. God bless.

While living in Honolulu over a 9 year span, we were able to see one of Don Ho's performances at Waikiki. I was amazed at how much he connected with the audience, how personal and warm he was, and what a wonderful representative I felt he was for Hawaii. Although I never had the priviledge of meeting you personally, I already feel as though I know you when I listen to your music. Please know that after reading your messages, I feel motivated and energized to leave the same kind of legacy: to love, encourage and to leave people laughing and smiling. Mr. ho, you have been a terrific ambassador for Hawaii, for your family, and for humanity. God bless you and your family, and please know you remain in our prayers.

Back in 1974, when I first visited the islands, Don Ho was a must on my to see list. He was a very, very entertaining man. I also learned a lot about him through my friend, Rod Young. He too admired and enjoyed him. Of course, I didn't know Mr. Ho personally, but I'm sure I would have enjoyed every minute of it. Don Ho, you made my trip to Hawaii the first time all worth while. The angels now have a beautiful singer and a man with a warm heart. There is no doubt, "I'll Remember You."

I shall always remember you and the Allis ~the times when I was single in the 60s and you and Robin were so fabulous~the time I took my dad to your "smash show" at The International Marketplace which lasted til 3 am ~wow ~ what stamina! and the times we visited you over 15 years when we lived in Waialae Nui Ridge~and best of all when we took our daughter on vacation to your show and you asked for all the military personnel who had served in Vietnam to stand up to a standing ovation~I was so proud of my husband as was our daughter~ and you gave everyone a bottle of "tiny bubbles." Thanks for the memories ~ God bless!

My heart sank when I heard the news that Don Ho had passed on. It truly is a sad day for the people of the Hawaiian Islands and for all the countless others throughout the world that had the good fortune to know him personally and experience his talent. He was the true essence of the Islands--the spirit of Aloha--and he generously shared himself with everyone. He once said it an interview that Hawaii would out live him--he was wrong--he will always be here with us in our minds and our hearts--this, his final gift to us all--the everlasting memory. I can't help but think that the gentle Hawaiian tradewinds must have momentarily "stilled" in reverence to his passing on. Aloha Oe M. Allgauer

He was one of a kind! There will never be another like Don HO!! In my early career as a singer/performer, he being as busy as he was; took the time to give me some of the best advise one could give about the ups and downs of the business. I was in his dressing room one evening at the Polynesian Palace with the likes of Connie Stevens, Lou Rawls and Shecky Greene who were also there to meet him. He saw me from the corner of his eye and took the time to spend a few minutes with me first. That's the kind of person he was. In fact, in the early 80's I took my girlfriend Evelyn, now my wife to his show. Low and behold in the audience that night was my idol, Engelbert Humperdinck! Don, knowing how I just admired Englebert made it a point to introduce him to me and we all took a photo together.

I was born and raised here from Kaneohe. Left Hawaii in 1969. Don Ho was the one I would say when they ask me where I'am from. "I'll Remember You and Tiny Bubbles was our songs to sing to all the Mainlander. Now after 39 years I come home to my roots. Now that he's no longer with us I'll still sing he's songs and have a tut. I remember being a 6-year-old in the Pittsburgh, PA area and bouncing on my parents's bed to a Don Ho album. "Tiny Bubbles" was one of the first songs I learned. I'm 42 now and have yet to visit Hawaii despite living on the west coast for some time. I knew that when I did go, I would get a ticket for Don's show in Honolulu. I know that when I do finally come to visit, I'll bring his music with me on my Ipod. There always seemed to be a true warmth and genuine nature about Don Ho. My sympathies to his family, friends and fans. Aloha, Don.

If success in one’s life is measured by love, then Don reigned supreme. He is the embodiment of the aloha spirit. Don was a true gentleman – a wonderful, kind person with a magical, radiant charm. He always took time to “talk story” and treated everyone with respect. I send my deepest condolences to Haumea and Don’s ohana. He will continue to be an inspiration to us all. It was a great privileged to meet Don Ho. This is way back in 1976. I was staying at Ala Moana Hotel. Not knowing if that Hotel still exist. He was witty and very down to earth. "I'll remember You" became my favorite ever since and till now. I've been playing the song over and over again since I found out he was gone. You will be greatly and sadly missed Don. Rest now with God and all the Saints and Angel. My deepest Condolences and prayers to the family.

My son, age 28, called me last night and said, " Mom, I hate to be the one to tell you some bad news." I was half asleep at 10:15 pm. " What's wrong?" I asked. Then he told me the news. Don was gone. I didn't break up at that time, but after I hung up I sobbed, told my husband , and we were both saddened. We saw Don in concert January, 2006. I had the priviledge to have a picture made with him, and I told him that I had always loved since I was a teenager. I am now 61 and still play his music almost every day.Don is with my Dad and Brother and many more people that I and his fans loved here on earth.I will look for you in heaven,Don.I pray that God will give peace to all of his family and friends and to all who loved him.Going back to Hawaii will not be the same.Mahalo and Aloha to you,Don

I've got to leave another message. In the 70s, I was the Regional Sales Manager in Seattle, WA for Hawaiian Airlines. One of the promotional pieces I used to promote the Islands was the promotional film Don did for United Airlines. This was before HA flew to Seattle. Every time I showed the film I would have tears rolling down my cheeks because the film would remind me of home, my carefree days going to Don's show after work at the Green Turtle. "I'll Remember You" was always the song that brought the most tears to a homesick island boy living in the cold climes of the Pacific Northwest. Mahalo, Don Ho for all of the opportunities you have given musicians in the islands. In the 80's, we were lucky enough to have a show at the Hilton Village. All of the people from your show would come and dance to our band after your show was over. We were even lucky enough to play with you at a couple of hilton functions. You were so nice to us. We always appreciated your kindness and the examples of "class" that you showed to others. Aloha nui loa, Don Ho, KeysWest-

We play our Don Ho cassettes every day and think of our wonderful times in Hawaii. We are in our young 90's now and recall very vividly how much we enjoyed the Don Ho Show in 1988 at the Hilton Dome celebrating our 50th wedding anniversary. What a fantstic show!. After the show, Don invited us backstage, took picutres with us, our family and Haumea. Then,as we were leaving, he presented us with a bottle of champagne! We know then that he would always be remembered at every anniversary to come. And next year we will celebrate our 70th wedding anniversay--hearing his songs and remembering his kindness as we have all these years. May it comfort Haumea and all of his family to know how much joy he has brought to us all these years. Aloha, Don Ho. .

The spirit of aloha that brightens and enhances our lives has been dimmed by the passing of Don Ho. He was synonymous with everything that exemplified the best of Hawaii. He loved the people, the culture, the language, the children the music and the land. He was a patriot, a philanthropist, and a genuinely caring and generous man. His sense of humor caught you by surprise. And the next thing you knew you were laughing out loud. He was a entertainer who became like family, and he will be remembered by all those lives he touched with his goodness and his songs. Aloha, Don Ho

Don Ho... Ahh, the memories... Hawaii will ever be changed with you not part of the living fabric there. My first memory of you is when I was a young lovely of 19, recently arrived in Hawaii (the land I dreamed to visit since age five) and you called me up on stage because I was in the Miss Hawaii International pageant. I was both embarrassed and proud and will forever remember those moments and your fine music and aloha spirit. You will dwell in the hearts of thousands, maybe millions forever and we will be reminded of you every time were here Tiny Bubbles. (I still know most of the words in Hawaiian...) In the summer of 1969, age 21, I first saw Don Ho perform while visiting in Hawaii. WOW!! What a great performer and genuine person. My husband, Roy, and I had six opportunities to go to Hawaii and each time we ALWAYS made reservations to see Don Ho first before any other plans were made. He was awesome each and every time. In 1986 my mother (age 75) went to Hawaii with us which had been a long time dream for her. She met Don Ho and enjoyed his show so very much. In 1988 we took our son (13) and daughter (8). After the show we had time to visit with him and our picture taken with him. It is still up in our home. Time has flown but the wonderful and beautiful memories will forever remain. Blessings and peace be with Don Ho's family, friends and the state of Hawaii. Aloha

The Ho laughter and legend live on. It was Don who may have coined today's meaning of the word "ho" that recently got Don Imus into so much trouble. On stage, back in the 70's, he would often say, "If I was elected President I would change the name of the White House to the Ho House" Back then, it always got a big laugh. Don's show on Mother's Day, 2006, will always be one of my cherished memories! In 1955, at the age of 3, I took dance lessons, including hula, to overcome orthopaedic concerns with the growth of my legs and feet. I remember falling in love with the islands immediately. When I saw Don appear on tv in the 60's, I was hooked on the Beatles and him! So, when I had the fortune to visit Hawaii last year, seeing Don was a must. A perfect Mother's Day gift for someone missing her children! His performance was warm and inviting like the islands. His essence was life affirming be it family, friends, fans, Hawaii, the U.S or the military. The world needs more Old Souls! A gentleman. My first memories of Don Ho were the throngs of R & R service persons who gathered nightly at Duke's at the IMP. Weary from battle they arrived by the Pan Am planeload for a few days glimpse in Hawaii of what they were fighting for...and Don Ho never let them down. It sent chills up my spine to see Don bring smiles to their young faces. My second memory of Don was hearing him in what, I believe, was his only New York appearance, sometime in the late 60s. The morning after his initial show at the Hilton the NY Times blurted out: "In New York, where anything goes, Don Ho goes to far." He was fabulous, but, as usual, the Times just didn't get it...didn't have a clue. And lastly, his keeping the memory alive of Kui Lee. He bought peace, joy and serenity to so many. Aloha, Don!

A huge part of my childhood passed with Don Ho yesterday. Landlocked in Des Moines, Iowa, all the troubles of the day could melt away as his soothing voice spoke of a real "Promised Land". One where there was lasting love, natural beauty, and peace, finally peace. He gave me hope that one day I would see it, as my father had as a WW2 soldier so long ago, and until that day, I could find a brief bit of escape in the "Tiny Bubbles". Thank you, Don, Mr. Ho, I'd hope to meet you one day. Perhaps I will yet, only on the other side. Peace

We met in the lobby after the show. He asked if I enjoyed it. I said yes but missed him singing "Sweet Someone" He put his arm around my waist and sang a couple lines of the song. He gave me a kiss on the cheek. I will always will remember his taking the time to make this gal truely happy. We have seen at him each of our 5 visits to Hawaii. This trip stands out .

Our deepest sympathy To the Don Ho Family. I met Don and Humea during the Hawaiian Open. Through a friend of mine and Don's I was able to play golf, hear stories about Pearl Harbour and all about Hawaii. One of his dreams was to play the grand Ole opry which he did a few years back. He said hey big boy you know that is where the real singers sing and he put on a great show in Nashville at the Opry. I am forever thankful for getting to spend time with Don. I am saddened by Hawaii's and his families loss but my memories of Don are wonderful. We will miss you Don Ho!!

Me ke aloha menemene,to Don's Families, both natural and extended. While everyone was chasing Elvis, I grew up loving Hawaiian music and Don Ho, I remember the first time I saw him on television , I was about 14 or 15 and he was on the Tonight Show, I believe. It was at that point that I fell in love with Hawaii. I took my sister to Hawaii in 1999 and she knew how much I wanted to see Don Ho and she paid my way to see him, He has opened the door to allow the world to embrace Hawaii and its people with lots of Aloha. I will miss him very much, but his smile will always be in my heart and when I see a rainbow and hear the soft voice of Tiny Bubbles, it will surely bring a smile to my face. Don Ho represented the islands. After my family moved to the Mainland one way to stay connected was to attend the many of Don Ho's performances which he held in Chicago. It was an inexpensive way to relive my parents life in Hawai'i. After one show, my parents were leaving when they happened to cross paths with Don. Mr. Ho took one look at my Dad and ask, "You local?" They were then invited to spend a couple hours sitting and talking about the islands, life and family. This has never been forgotten by my folks and also brings a smile to my face. That is the true spirit of Hawai'i and of Don Ho. What a fine example to spread the Aloha Spirit around the world. Now he is spreading the Aloha Spirit in another paradise. God Bless you Don Ho and my family will always remember you.

The book of Psalms tells us that we all have lives like flowers; we flourish and then pass away. Some people like flowers leave a fragrance that lingers long after they are gone. Such it is with Don Ho. The fragrance of his life, his music will linger on as long as Hawaii has songs to sing and music to make. Thank you Don Ho.

I first met Don in St. Louis in the early 70's - the last time in 1991 in Honolulu - he was wearing a purple jacket - he proudly told me he now had 2 more children - one named Hoku - He was so very proud of his children - told him he was looking very good - he said - yeh not bad for an old man - I said not bad for any age - we had a photo taken together - good one of him and me well, oy - we spoke of Ku'i Lee and I mentioned I had heard Ku'i the day before on a radio station in Wailuku singing I'll remember you. Mahalo Nui Loa - Don - for all your beautiful music - your voice so pure - We all will miss you. Soon it's gonna rain - I can feel it - most certainly you will be remembered - you are in the wind and the waves amd in the hearts of all of us - Aloha Nui Loa - Friend

My deepest condolences to the entire Ho family, Don was a truely exceptional man who brought so much happiness to the entire world and he was the greatest and most known ambassador of The Islands of Hawai'i. I saw him many times perform in Oahu, as I visit the Islands every years since 1975, I never missed to see him at least once perform. In 1996 after one of his performances I told him that my dog Chevas gives a luau for all his human friends and that Tiny Bubbles was sung by all with bubbles being dispensed by a bubble machine from a crane with the appropriate lighting over the entire luau attended by over 300 guest...he found that amusing and great. Now Don is in heaven like Chevas who lived to 19 which is in our human life span ca. 134 years. I remember you, Conrad

I heard last night while I was cleaning our garage on a late night fox talk sports show that Don Ho had died. Memories for me is when I was 10-12, I would set up the stereo in our backyard and play his records(live albums) in the summer. I still have them too.'Don Ho and the Swinging Alii's. Like parents, he is one of the people we think should last forever. His live albums were fun for me to listen to as a local boy growing up on the mainland. I thought he was a connection to home for me. My dad would tell me that Don was a good high school athlete as well, before becoming an entertainer. Feels like losing family. He just took his show on another road trip, maybe my pops can catch up w/him up there w/the other local boys overlooking their ohanas while sharing their aloha above.

I have always loved Don Ho. In 2005 on my boyfriend's last tour of duty, he invited me to Hawaii. I told him I had to see Don Ho before leaving. He pullled some strings through the Navy and got us tickets. We both enjoyed the show tremendously. Our photo sits proudly in my living room for all to see. The "Tiny Bubbles in the WIne" will never die, even though the great entertainer who sang those words, has. If I ever get back to Hawaii, it will be with a sad heart, knowing a big part of it is missing. The world has lost someone special. Condolences to his family and millions of friends around the world.

A great son of Hawaii has passed on. He was a living legend. I have been coming to Hawaii for the past 25 years and last year took my 80 year old mother for her first return trip since the mid-1950's. We saw the Don Ho show in April 2006. After the show my mother said to Don, "I saw you back in the 1950's and loved you then". Don's response was "I remember you, welcome back". We all got a laugh out of that. My all time favorite song is "I'll remember you". I will remember Don Ho for his entertainment, humor, friendliness, and the last great ambassador of Hawaii.

In the early 70's, I moved to Hawaii, met my best friends for life there through Don and his friends. He frolicked with our youth always happy and always kind, and his heart was big. I remember he always watched out for us. He was indeed a sincere person. At that time there were rummers of questions that he had forgotten were he came from. I have to say Don was Hawaii in the purest form of the heart and spirit. I think he enjoyed his youth and enjoyed the attention of it. When I think of Don in those days a lyrik in one of his songs comes to mind, "What do I need to be me" if I walk along and find my piece of mind. Time changes us all. But one thing holds true, Don will remain the true Aloha of Hawaii to me.I loved him as a person, he played a important role in my youth,I thank you Don.

Were do I begin... It took me almost an entire day to come to terms with your death. I had plans to visit you when I come home in May...hoping to catch a show and take another picture with you. It's been over 25 years. I called my dad the other day and told him..."Daddy when I come home I'll make reservations for the Don Ho Dinner Show". We were excited...hoping to have over 20 of us. I have wonderful fun memories of you. Coming to our home "Pua Melia Plantation"...my friends and I being special guests at your show and dancing hula to your songs. My years at Kahuku High School, the Hawaiian Club...the boys sang and the we girls danced hula to your mele. Yes it was at Laie Elementary School where it all began...the boys pantomiming to your songs and the girls pantomiming to "One Bad Apple Don't Spoil A Whole Bunch of Girls". Want wonderful memories. Though "Tiny Bubbles" is the favorite for the world...it’s “I'll Remember You" that is mine. I have always connected you to Kui Lee...my all time favorite artist and because of that I will always love you. Until we meet again, A hui hou malama pono Anela Fuller Johnson :-)

Don re-invented the musical image of Hawaii, for a new generation of audiences. He, possibly more than anyone else, imprinted the name of Kui Lee on the hearts of global fans. Don also gave opportunity for any number of island talent to shine with him. Years from now, they may be invoking Don's name as a pioneering patient in stem cell research. He left some deep footprints in the sand.

As a Hawaii resident, I met my wife on Kalakaua Ave in 1967 when she was visiting from Canada. The first place I took her on a date that night was to the International Market Place at Duke's where Don appeared regularly and introduced her to him. I told my wife that if you came to Hawaii and didn't see Don Ho, then you didn't really see Hawai'i. We last saw Don in 1997.I made a point of introducing family members who visited us aftr we married to Don and they were all thrilled to meet him. I'm sure that there will be a proper public memorial to honor Don Ho's contribution to Hawai'i. Don Ho epitomized the spirit of Hawai'i and made the Islands a richer place for all. They'll never be another kanaka like Don Ho. Rest in Peace, bruddah.

I lived in Kaimuki in the late 60's and have fond memories of seeing Don perform his mid-night "suck em up" show at Dukes in the International Market Place. When you think of entertainment in Hawaii you think of Don Ho. My thoughts and prayers are with the Ho family and with the people of Hawaii.

It is a shock that a very dear friend is gone from the Waikiki scene. My last visit with Don was the 18th of March when I was called on stage to perform with Don and of course he asked "wheres your ukulele and I said its at the takle. Go on go get em and come back and do one song for us. I gave it my best for Don Pikake was the selection. I did visit with him for a little while and asked him to sign my picture for all times sake and he did. Little did I know that would be the last time I would see him. His encauragement to make a CD while I still had the voice was an inspirational kick and I did it. Theres a saying that goes "HOW QUIET THE WOODS WOULD BE IF THE BIRDS DIDN'T SING". Waikiki is going to be real quiet. That Bird is not going to sing anymore. GOD BLESS YOU QUACK!

Few could perform with such assiduous dignity and self-effacement the roles he held: entertainer, father, ambassador of Hawaii to the world. Generations have enjoyed sharing in his humor, warmth, and aloha. Our deepest condolences to Don's family and friends, and a heartfelt aloha from an expatriate. Don, you have for so many years been the quintessential smiling face of Hawaii, and we will always remember you.

I first met Don in Las Vegas in the 60s, and had the honor of being on stage with him at the Hilton in the early 80s. I was impressed at how gracious he was to all. In the past few years, I'd occasionally run into him at his namesake bar, where he would just blend in with the crowd with his dark sunglasses and blue ball cap. When recognized, he would pose for photos and give autographs to his fans. I was as impressed with him as a human being as I was with him as an extrodinary performer. Top rate for both.

We will miss Don. We have been fans since 1969 when we first saw him at Duke Kahanamoku's and have seen him countless times throughout the following years (both in Hawaii and on the mainland). We celebrated our 50th wedding anniversary in December 2004 at his show with our whole family. Don was like a close friend to us; his beautiful voice and music and his gentle manner have had a major impact on our lives as has the kindness of his entertainment team. Aloha 'Oe Don! As with everyone, I knew of Don Ho the entertainer. But I had only really met him as my friends Dad. Not as an icon or celebrity. I was merely introduced to him as "Juice, I'd like you to meet my Dad". You see, I was a Kamehameha 1978 classmate of Dwight, Don's son. Knowing the type of life that he led, I was always impressed when he would show up at our volleyball games simply to support his son. Or the time, after a concert at the Waikiki shell, Dwight and I ended up on the rock wall outside his house finishing off the cooler when his Dad came home and we were warmly greeted. To Dwight and the entire family, your Dad was a great ambassador of Aloha and will surely be missed by an adoring public.

I am saddened by the news of Don Ho's passing. He went to school with my father Kaipo Kalohelani and uncle Eric Kalohelani. All 3 of them are gone now. When my father passed I came to Hawaii for the funeral. I live near OKC. My relatives who live in Kaneohe took me to eat at their favorite Hawaiian restaurant in Kapahulu. Don Ho saw us and picked up our tab in memory of my father. He waved at us when he was leaving. He was holding one of his grandkids, wearing a ball cap. I did not realize it was my favorite Hawaiian singer until my family pointed him out to me. I was so very pleased and surprised at his kind deed. Illona Kalohelani Morris

Growing up in Waikiki, he was my hero. Above everything else, I most admired this imperfect man for his great love to humanity. I cherish the few moments that I shared "by fateful accident" with him, Haumea, and his niece, who again by chance, just happened to be my wife. Of course, he has a huge family! When you watched how Uncle Don treated people, you could not help but learn live's great lesson on the importance of being kind to one another. That's the way he was, how I will remember him, and I will try to measure up to. Mahalo nui loa, Uncle Don, we will meet you again in the Hawaiian seas, where again "We'll laugh and play all day..."! In 1960 we had a group working a show at the Waikiki Biltmore Penthouse. After our show we went across to Honey's to make an audience for Don at Honey's. He was grateful to us. In 1968 my 6 yr old daughter danced on stage with him & the Alii's in Sunnyvale,CA. I have pictures with Uncle Donald and my daughter with the "gang". Having to live outside Hawaii was difficult but Don's music along with Manny, Jose and the Alii's kept Hawaii close to my heart while away from the islands. He was a true entertainer and his passing leaves a great void . His music will be enjoyed still and his smile and kindness will not be forgotten. It was a joy to sing along with him and friends. Rest in peace until the day of the resurrection back to Paradise. Mahalo nui loa , Don, for all your music. Kay

Aloha, What can I say. Don gave my daughter Tammy...now 37 yrs., her middle name, Leimaile,...after his beloved Mother. Don was a big part of my life, like a surrogate Father, from the time he was at Dukes until I left the Islands in 1986, which was the last time I saw him. I worked for him on several tours, including the 1st time he was in Las Vegas at the Sands Hotel. He always told me..."do as I say...not as I do." When I left Hawaii, he called me up on stage and sang my favorite song to me, but changed the lyrics a bit..."she did it her way."

I just wanted to leave my condolences to the Ho family. He was a really great entertainer and he has left behind a big legacy. One one great memomry of Don Ho is when I was a little girl. I think I was about seven and we went to see his show. He would do this part in the show where he would sing Happy Birthday to someone in the audience and I guess there was no one with a birthday that night, so they picked me out of the audience and asked me if I wanted to go on stage with him and he would sing it to me. They told me to "make pretend". It was really cool to be up there with such a legend and I will always have that memory, and the memory of meeting him backstage when the show was over. You will be missed and Hawaii was blessed to have you!!

We saw Don Ho perform only once in the spring of 2006 and what a memorable event it was. At the time, it was very evident that he was dealing with some health issues but he entertained us all evening. I cried when the audience sang "Tiny Bubbles" - ranks right up there with the Star Spangled Banner!!

I will always remember him as a generous man...and the great party album in the early 60's; "E lei ke lei lei"...I still have some of those red tumblers from Duke's at the Market Place. I'll never forget the stir he caused when he and Nappy Pulawa showed up at the old convention center for Wayne Reese's wedding in the late 60's.

We were in Waikiki this past January and were delighted to see that Don Ho was performing at the Beachcomber. It was such a happy childhood memory of mine to hear my Mom who adored Don Ho, sing "One Paddle, Two Paddle...". Of course, we had to go see his show. My then 8 year old daughter had the greatest opportunity to go onstage and sing with Mr. Ho. It was wonderful and will never be forgotten. Thanks for the good times, Don!

We had the privilege of Seeing Mr.Ho and his beautiful daughter Hoku in 2002...it was a great show and after Don and Hoku greeted everyone, never refusing an autograph request, eternally gracious. I had read earlier that day that his nickname in High School was "Duck" and I ask him about it...he chuckled and replied because of the way I walk. I know his legacy will be that of entertainer, but I will always think of Mr.Don Ho as a true Patriot:Military Veteran and friend of all service people. I remember playing with Don and hanging out for those famous late night jams when I was working with Zulu. This Happy Go-lucky Hawaiian will always be in our hearts. Everytime you hear his songs of Tiny Bubbles, E Lei Ka Lei Lei, Night Life ..etc..etc.. you will remember Uncle Don Ho. The years at Duke's with the Alii's. The LARGE Mai Tai glasses that expressed his name ' DON HO ' was something to keep and his big hawaiian kiss that all the Kupuna's would adore. I could remember prom-nite in Waikiki and all the kids from different schools would line up to see him. However you had to be 21 years old to get in he would have the waiters open the windows/doors so his music could be heard by everyone thoughout the Market Place. And he would recognize everyone out there and play them a special tune. This was a Hawaiian of pure heart for music was his message! Peace be with you! Aloha oe!

We are deeply saddened to hear the news and our thoughts and prayers go out to Don's family and close friends. We just returned from Hawaii a week ago and were fortunate to spend some time with Don after his show. Don was an amazing person and loved life to it's fullest. He was a very caring and giving man with a true Aloha spirit. His deep respect for others, especially military and veterans was admirable. Inviting my brother and I to appear and sing on his nationally televised special in the late 60's will always be one of my fondest memories. Don will be deeply missed and I hope a grand tribute will be made to honor and remember him forever.

Hafa Adai to the Ho Family, It is with great sadness to hear the untimely passing of a local native Hawaiian hero. We love and model after Don Ho as a legendary person in his own right and as an iconic "local boy" musical magic that he inspires in us all here in the Mariana Islands. We will sorely miss his magical presence, but his music lives on foreover in our hearts. In this regard, we ask that a Don Ho museum be built in the heartland of Waikiki in his honor and in his remembrance during our lifetime and for the generations after ours. May God bless his soul and forever make him rest in peace and tranquility with the angels in Heaven. Deep Regards, Former Congressman William S. Torres Saipan, Northern Mariana Islands
