HPU sweeps UH-Hilo in softball doubleheader

Jessica Adolph pitched a three-hitter and worked out of seventh-inning trouble as Hawai'i Pacific defeated Hawai'i-Hilo, 2-1, today to complete a sweep of a Pacific West Conference doubleheader at Sea Warrior Field.Casey Sugihara hit a two-run double in the fifth for the Sea Warriors (28-10, 14-2 PacWest), who took over the conference lead from the Vulcans (33-10, 13-3).
Leo Sing Chow's RBI single with two on and no outs in the top of the seventh helped Hilo close to 2-1. After the next batter popped out, Charity Senas singled to center, but Kanani Numata was thrown out at the plate. Adolph then got Miki Asamura to ground out to end the game.
In the opener, Danielle Young's run-scoring double with one out in the bottom of the 10th won it for the Sea Warriors, 4-3.
Nicole Kalakau hit a two-run double, Tajia Acierto hit a solo homer and Courtney Kessell pitched a six-hitter with eight strikeouts for HPU. Senas hit a solo homer and RBI single for Hilo.
The teams split a non-conference doubleheader Saturday night.
In the first game, Senas hit a pair of two-run homers to power Hilo to a 12-6 victory.
In the second game, Adolph pitched a two-hitter with and Krystal Plunkett hit an RBI single as HPU won, 1-0. Losing pitcher Tracy Ryan pitched a five-hitter with nine strikeouts.
