PINE TREE PULLERS — Join Haleakala National Park and the Pacific Whale Foundation in removing invasive pines near Hosmer Grove from 9 a.m. to noon Sundays. Transportation provided at 7:30 a.m. at Harbor Shops, Ma'alaea, and 8:15 a.m. at Mayor Hannibal Tavares Community Center, Pukalani. Closed footwear required; bring water and lunch. CELEBRATE EARTH DAY — Volunteers are needed for the Earth Day Celebration from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at Maui Nui Botanical Gardens, Kahului. Help is needed Friday for set-up and Saturday for games, gift shop sales and security; e-mail mnbg@maui.net.

EARTH DAY CRUISES — The Pacific Whale Foundation is offering free one-hour Earth Day cruises to Hawai'i residents next Sunday, with an Earth Day celebration from 11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at its Discovery Center in the Harbor Shops at Ma'alaea. Cruise reservations required; call 249-8811.

MAKIKI WAI — The state and Hawai'i Nature Center are looking for help 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday to make Makiki trail improvements, remove weeds and plant native species. Bring long pants, long-sleeve shirt, shoes or boots, gloves, insect repellent, water and lunch. Meet at the Makiki Forestry Baseyard. ALA WAI CLEANUP — Join the Sierra Club for the Ala Wai Small Boat Harbor cleanup Saturday. Meet at 8 a.m. at the harbormaster's office. Bring sturdy closed-toe shoes, hat, thick rubber gloves, sunscreen, water. Children must have signed waiver; call Deborah Blair at 955-4168.

KONA SCHOLARSHIP — April 30 is the deadline to apply for the Kona Outdoor Circle $1,000 scholarship, open to West Hawai'i college students studying horticulture, landscaping, environment, forestry, agriculture, or related fields.
