Only official vehicles will be allowed entry on these two days.
The state Department of Land and Natural Resources will enforce traffic control at Diamond Head Road.
The entrance road, which is heavily used, will be rebuilt at the entry to the tunnel. The road contractor will also rebuild, repair and repave two sections of the incoming and exiting lanes and shoulders of the crater entrance road. Traffic will be contraflowed into the other lane as required.
In addition, other projects have been scheduled in the crater while the road is closed, including conducting a topographic survey for planned work to stabilize and improve the trail for park users, survey of trailside vegetation that will be part of a rockfall mitigation project, and maintenance work on the summit trail.
"We appreciate the public's understanding and cooperation during this short, mid-week closure of Diamond Head State Monument so that we can make needed repairs to strengthen and repair this heavily trafficked road," said Peter Young, DLNR chairman.
Approximately 700 visitor vehicles including cars, vans and commercial vehicles enter and exit the park daily.
The park will reopen to all public access on Friday. Park hours are 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily.
