Complaint withdrawn in alleged Kalihi Kai rape

Advertiser Staff

A woman who last week reported she was kidnapped and raped after her car stalled in Kalihi Kai has withdrawn her complaint, police said today.

Police yesterday issued a written statement regarding the case and declined further comment.

The statement read: "The female who reported being kidnapped and sexually assaulted in Kalihi has withdrawn her complaint. The male who was arrested has been released. Further action on this case is being evaluated."

Police reportedly are reviewing new evidence that possibly disputes the complaint filed by the woman.

Michelle Yu, HPD spokeswoman, declined comment on whether an investigation could result in criminal charges against the woman.

Police called a news conference Thursday, a day after the 44-year-old woman alleged that incident on Pu'uhale Road and Homerule Street had occurred and released a suspect sketch and description about the car used based on information provided by the woman.

It led to the arrest Friday of Ricky N.L. Albano, 44, at 2130 N. King St. at 12:15 p.m. from a CrimeStoppers tip.

Albano was released without charges at 12:50 a.m. Saturday.
