Fugitive arrested in Hilo

Advertiser Staff

The U.S. Marshal Service's Hawai'i Fugitive Task Force arrested Kimball Dean Strickland, 44, today at his Hilo residence on Kaunalua Street on a $35,000 felony theft warrant from Texas.

Chief Deputy Michael Ferstl, head of the fugitive task force, said Strickland was arrested without incident and turned over to state authorities for extradition to Texas. The task force received a request for assistance from Texas last week to arrest Strickland, who is wanted posing as a roofing contractor and allegedly scamming residents during Hurricane Rita.

Rita caused $11.3 billion in damages along the U.S. Gulf Coast in September 2005.

"Anytime we have can individual who violated the law by scamming innocent victims, we'll do everything in our power to find them and bring them to justice," U.S. Marshal in Hawai'i Mark Hanohano said in a statement issued through Ferstl.
