Microsoft donates $500K of software to Hale Kipa

Advertiser Staff

Microsoft Corp. today said it provided more than $500,000 in software to Hale Kipa, a nonprofit that provides programs and environments that encourage at-risk youth and their families.

The company said the grant is part of its Unlimited Potential Program, which is a global initiative to work with local organizations to improve economic opportunities through technology training and workforce development programs.

The grant will be used to augment existing computer training programs and new initiatives.

Hale Kipa plans to use the grant to create a safe, social networking portal, exclusively for Hale Kipa youth and to provide a platform for discussions and knowledge sharing and develop on-line study groups and workshops. Hale Kipa plans to involve several Hale Kipa youth in managing the portal. With mentoring, the youth will be trained in providing help desk support and network administration for their own network as a way of internship or job training.

Since 2003, Microsoft has given and matched employee gifts totally more than $3 million in cash, curriculum and software in the state of Hawai'i.
