  • Local radio personality JUSTIN CRUZ, of 93.1 The Zone (KQMQ), will join the KHON-2 TV news team as weather anchor, beginning April 23. He will appear on all weekday evening newscasts at 5 p.m., 6 p.m. and 10 p.m. Cruz began his radio career in 1992 on Guam, and has been with KQMQ-FM for 10 years, five as a morning show host.

  • Veteran government relations specialist Christopher "Chris" Pablo — a cancer survivor who's probably as well-known for his personal fight against leukemia and for helping drum up interest in bone-marrow donation — will join Goodsill Anderson Quinn & Stifel LLP, effective June 25. He comes to the law firm, one of Honolulu's largest and oldest, with an extensive legal and government affairs background. For the past 15 years, he was director of government and community affairs for Kaiser Foundation Health Plan, Inc. Before joining Kaiser, he served as director of government relations for Hawaii Medical Service Association. Earlier, Pablo was a special assistant to U.S. Senator Daniel Inouye, and before that, in private law practice with former Gov. John Waihee.

  • Marketing communications agency, Loomis-ISC, which represented GARY HOOSER in his Congressional campaign last year for the seat vacated by U.S. Rep. Ed Case, has hired Hooser as vice president, public affairs. Hooser, presently the state Senate majority leader, will serve during the May-to-December legislative recess. The one-time Kaua'i County councilman, represents Kaua'i and Ni'ihau, (District 7). He has also run a real estate and publishing business on Kaua'i, and is a recognized advocate on issues related to environmental affairs and community-based sustainable development. Loomis-ISC is a 25-year-old agency founded by Jim Loomis, ex-mayor Frank Fasi's long-time director of the city Office of Information and Complaint, and Alan Pollock, who left the company in 1998.

  • JIM YATES, president of The Gas Co., has been elected president of the 53-member, 2007 YMCA of Honolulu board of directors. Elected vice-chairs were STEVEN AI, president and chief executive officer of City Mill Co. Ltd.; BRUCE COPPA, senior vice president, Communications Pacific; and TIM JOHNS, chief operating officer of the Samuel Mills Damon Estate. Named secretary and treasurer, respectively, were Honolulu District Family Court Judge MICHAEL BRODERICK, and RODNEY MATSUMOTO. The 138-year-old organization operates nine branches throughout O'ahu.

  • PATRICK DOLAN — a Navy veteran who was a cook aboard the USS Constellation aircraft carrier and the USS Texas — has been named general manager of Dixie Grill Bar-b-que & Crab Shack, 'Aiea. Dolan was also a field cook for nine years and has worked for a number of Seattle-area and Honolulu eateries.

  • DEBORAH L. NAKASHIMA, associate dean for graduate advising at Hawai'i Pacific University, has been elected regional chair (Hawai'i, California and Nevada) for the 9,200-member National Academic Advising Association. In the leadership role, Nakashima will facilitate networking and recruitment of members; identifying membership service needs; and overseeing the annual regional conference, state workshops and other professional events. In addition to serving as associate dean, Nakashima has been a communication and career skills instructor at HPU for more than 20 years.

  • Estelle Le Blanc has joined Outrigger Enterprises Group as manager, interactive commerce. Le Blanc will work remotely from her Portland, Ore. home. She will work closely with the company's web design and development company, opus: creative, and other Internet marketing consultants, as well as the company's various business units on brand development, e-marketing solutions and planning. Le Blanc comes with an extensive background in interactive project management. She first joined opus: creative as senior project manager in 2001 and was promoted to director of project management.
