Drunk driver gets prison time in negligent homicide

Advertiser Staff

A 56-year-old man who admitted driving drunk and colliding with a car carrying an infant girl, who was killed in the accident, was sentenced this morning in Circuit Court to 18 months in prison and five years probation.

Ceriaco Kasoga pleaded guilty in December to negligent homicide for the death of 10-month-old Saydee Miller, a passenger in a car struck by Kasoga's car near Waimea Bay in September 2005. In addition to probation, Kasoga was ordered to pay $7,600 in restitution.

Initially, Kasoga had been scheduled for sentencing on Feb. 12. It was rescheduled for this morning after the infant's father punched Kasoga in the face and kicked him as Kasoga approached Circuit Judge Richard Pollack's fourth-floor courtroom for the sentencing.
