Big Island brushfire burns 4 acres near Pahala

Advertiser Staff

A brushfire burned about 4 acres last night near Pahala on the Big Island, including about 10,000 square feet of an adjoining eucalyptus tree farm.

No one was injured by the fire, fire officials said.

Firefighters were looking into whether the fire started in a collection of abandoned cars stored on the makai edge of the burned property — along a cane haul road about 2 miles above Pahala Town.

The fire was reported about 9:10 p.m., was brought under control about 10:30 p.m. and was declared extinguished about 11 p.m.

Eleven firefighters from the Pahala Fire Station and four volunteer firefighters put out the blaze.
