Near-drowning victim at Sunset Beach retrieved

Advertiser Staff

A man who appeared to be in his late 40s or early 50s has been rushed to Wahiawa General Hospital in critical condition after nearly drowning this morning at Sunset Beach.

Bryan Cheplic, a spokesman for the city's Emergency Services Department, said the man was "basically unresponsive" when he was brought to shore about 9:55 a.m.

Cheplic said lifeguards attempted to resuscitate the man and were eventually able to get his heartbeat and breathing restored after bringing him out of the water.
