Strong trade winds bring high surf advisory

Advertiser Staff

A high suf advisory is in effect for the eastern shores of O'ahu, Kaua'i, Molokai, Maui and the Big Island until 6 p.m. Wednesday, the National Weather Service said.

Moderate to fresh trades continue far south of a strong high pressure system over the ocean, generating rough and hazard conditions.

Today's forecast calls for surf 6 to 10 along eastern shores and surf along northern shores to increase to 8 to 12 feet through today. Western shores will see surf 4 to 8 feet, while western shores will see surf 2 to 4 feet.

The strong trade winds will bring rough and choppy surf to east facing shores through Thursday. A moderate northwest swell is expected to peak early today, with another moderate northwest swell expected on Saturday. Small southerly swells will continue through the period, with a slightly larger swell starting Friday, and continuing through Sunday.
