Search for woman shifts to Windward O'ahu

Advertiser Staff

The search for a missing 21-year-old woman from Japan shifted today from the North Shore to Windward O'ahu. Police had been concentrating their search for Masumi Watanabe in the area of Pupukea Road but searched around Kahana Bay yesterday based on a tip.

Police declined comment on media reports that a pesticide company driver was questioned concerning the woman's disppearance, but not arrested.

Watanabe has been living with a host family on Maulukua Road in Pupukea since arriving in Hawai'i in February.

She was last seen last Thursday at 9:20 a.m. off Pupukea Road near Alapi'o Road. She was wearing a navy blue hooded long-sleeve sweater, brown shirt, blue denim pants and pink shoes.

Watanabe's parents arrived in Hawai'i on Monday, police said.
