United Nations official to address 'Aloha Peace' forum

Advertiser Staff

United Nations Under-Secretary-General Anwarul Chowdhury will be the keynote speaker at the Aloha Peace Community Forum on Saturday at the University of Hawai'i at Manoa.

The event is scheduled for 1 p.m. at the School of Architecture auditorium. Chowdhury will also open an exhibit at Sinclair Library on Saturday afternoon. The exhibit is called, "Creating a Culture of Peace: The Right to Human Security."

The exhibit, open to the public Saturday to April 28, was put together by the lay Buddhist association Soka Gakkai International-USA to commemorate the 50th anniversary of an anti-nuclear declaration issued by the organization's second president, Josei Toda.

Both events are free and open to the public, but space is limited at the Saturday talk.

Chowdhury has been a leader of the United Nation's culture of peace initiative since its inception in 1999. In his speech, he will address human security in modern times.
