High surf advisory in effect until 6 p.m.

Advertiser Staff

Eastern shores remain under a high surf advisory until 6 tonight, the National Weather Service said.

A strong high pressure system northeast of the islands is generating rough and choppy surf, and inexperienced swimmers are urged to stay out of the water off eastern shorelines until the weather calms.

The National Weather Service is calling for surf 6 to 8 feet along eastern shores, but conditions will be rough for surfers.

Elsewhere, surf will be 4 to 8 feet along northern shores, 3 to 6 feet along western shores and 2 to 4 feet along southern shores.

The strong trade winds will continue to bring rough and choppy surf to east facing shores through tomorrow. Another moderate northwest swell is expected Saturday, bringing near advisory level surf heights, while an even larger northwest swell is expected on Monday. Small southerly swells continue through the period, with a slightly larger one arriving Friday, and lasting through Sunday.
