At least eight matches against 2006 NCAA tournament teams, including marquee matchups with Nebraska and UCLA, highlight Rainbow Wahine volleyball's tentative 2007 schedule.

Hawai'i's season starts with the Asics Rainbow Wahine Invitational on Aug. 24. The 'Bows play Michigan, Colorado State and Oregon State opening weekend. The Wolverines and CSU lost in the NCAA's first round last year. UH advanced to the elite eight and was ranked ninth in the final CSTV/AVCA Top 25.

UCLA, which fell to eventual NCAA champion Nebraska at the final four, is in Manoa the following weekend for the Hawaiian Airlines Classic. Hawai'i faces Louisville, which also lost in the NCAA's first round, opening night.

Santa Clara, a 2005 final-four team, is the feature opponent in the following week's Waikiki Beach Marriott Challenge.

The following month, the Rainbow Wahine travel to Lincoln to play Nebraska, which is expected to be ranked No. 1 in the preseason poll.

Hawai'i's Western Athletic Conference schedule includes two matches with New Mexico State, which ended the 'Bows' NCAA-record 132-match conference winning streak last year and finished 23rd in the country. The WAC Championship is tentatively scheduled for Las Cruces, N.M., the week before Thanksgiving.

The Rainbows will close the regular season Thanksgiving week with two matches against Loyola Marymount. Those dates will be announced later.

Hawai'i adjusted five of its matches so they wouldn't conflict with home football games. UH coach Dave Shoji estimates the moves to less-desired nights keeps 1,500 to 2,000 away. The financial loss is around $100,000. The Rainbow Wahine led the country in attendance for the 12th straight year last season, averaging 7,186.

The 27th annual Rainbow Wahine Volleyball Camps begin in June. There are four sessions (June 18 to 21, July 13 to 16 and 23 to 26 and July 31 to Aug. 3). All camps run from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. and are open to girls and boys of all skill levels entering grades 4 through 12. Cost is $150.

For more information, contact UH associate coach Kari Ambrozich at 956-2496 or wvball@hawaii.edu. Registration forms are on the UH Web site (www.hawaiiathletics.com).

The inaugural Dave Shoji Invitational Lunch Pa'ina will be May 3. The event takes the place of the annual golf tournament and raises funds for the team. Cost is $75. For more information, call the volleyball office at 956-6229.
