Tourism officials plan China trip to drum up business

Representatives from the Hawai'i Visitors and Convention Bureau will travel to Shanghai next week to drum up greater awareness for Hawaii's meetings industry at the inaugural 2007 Incentive Travel & Conventions Meetings China tradeshow.

The INTEX Shanghai exhibition, scheduled for April 23-25, is expected to draw more than 1,200 Chinese and international business leaders and buyers. HVCB officials say the event represents an opportunity to show Hawai'i as a premier Pacific Rim destination to host international business meetings.

"We're cultivating business relationships today to generate sales results in the future as China becomes more active with international business conferences," said Michael Murray, HVCB's vice president of sales and marketing for corporate meetings and incentives.

Joining HVCB is the Hawai'i Convention Center, Hawai'i Tourism Asia and industry partner Euro USA. Along with the tradeshow exhibition, sales calls will be made on prospective clients.

This is the latest HVCB effort to establish a stronger foothold in the Asia business meetings market and develop international leads. In the past year, HVCB also has gone to Beijing and Hangzhou, China, and to Bangkok, Thailand.
