State flags at half-staff until sunset on Sunday

Advertiser Staff

State flags at state and county buildings will to be flown at half-staff until sunset Sunday out of respect for the victims of Monday's tragedy at Virginia Tech, according to a news release issued this week by Gov. Linda Lingle.

The governor's order coincided with a proclamation issued Tuesday by President George W. Bush ordering all U.S. flags to fly at half-staff for the same period.

"Hawai'i joins the nation in mourning the loss of the innocent victims of this horrible and senseless act of violence," Lingle said in the news release.

"Our hearts and prayers go out to the families and friends of those who lost their lives or were injured, and we stand united with the Virginia Tech community as they struggle to recover from this heartbreaking tragedy."
