Advertiser Staff

'Aiea's Dennis Lajola defeated a former practice partner today to advance to the quarterfinals of the International Tennis Federation Boys 18-and-under National Championship at Rancho Mirage, Calif.

"It went well, (I) played well, played solid and came up with the win," said Lajola of his 6-1, 6-3 victory over Bradley Cox of Duluth, Ga.

The two practiced together for about six months four years ago while both were at the Nick Bollettieri Academy in Bradenton, Fla.

"It was an experience (to meet him) again," Lajola said. "We are friends. It was a friendly battle."

The fourth-seeded Lajola, who will play for the University of Hawai'i next season, will face Jeff Dadamo of Tampa, Fla., tomorrow. Dadamo defeated Drew Daniel, 6-1, 6-3, today.

Yesterday's victory over Alexander Domijan was a Round of 32 match. It was incorrectly reported as a Round of 16 match.
