City seeks agencies to provide youth training services

The city's Oahu Workforce Investment Board wants to hear from nonprofit agencies and for the first time also from for-profit organizations to apply to be included in list of those eligible to provide training and instructional services to youths under four programs.In 2006, the agency's youth programs served 1,831 clients.
Applications to apply to an Eligible Training Provider lists are available at: www4.honolulu.gov/bfspurchasingbids/.
The programs, to provide young people 14 to 21 years old with training and instruction to help them enter the workforce or to improve their employment eligibility, are: Academic Instruction for Youth ; Occupational Skills Training for Youth; Work Experience and Work Readiness Skills Training for Youth; Youth Development Training.
The application deadline is 4 p.m. on May 7, 2007.
The Oahu Workforce Investment Board was established by the federal Workforce Investment Act of 1998 to bring together industry employers, training providers and educational institution, and adult and youth job seekers to create an effective workforce development system.
The board works to ensure that this system is customer-focused and addresses both the demand of employers for a qualified workforce and the need for employees to earn a living wage. Those interested may call Leinaala Nakamura 832-7960 ext. 32.
