Kaua'i's bottle bill change takes effect tomorrow

Advertiser Staff

Starting tomorrow, consumers can bring up to 200 Hi-5 empty beverage containers per visit to a certified bottle redemption center and request that they be hand counted.

Previously, only loads of 50 containers or less could be hand counted.

The change addresses the concern that consumers weren't getting accurate refunds based on weight averages.

Consumers still have the option of having their beverage containers weighed, with refunds based on a standard conversion rate determined by the state Department of Health.
