Sonya Mendez headlines Well of Hope fundraiser May 8

Advertiser Staff

Entertainer Sonya Mendez will perform and host a set of live music at a fundraiser for the Well of Hope Foundation on May 8 at Aloha Tower Marketplace's Events at the Tower stage. The fundraiser will also be a release party for Mendez's new CD "Back to the Islands."

The 5:30 p.m. event will feature Mendez debuting songs from the new disc, and performances by Anita Hall and Nueva Vida, Connie Kissinger, Ben Vegas, Maila Gibson and other entertainers.

The Well of Hope Foundation was co-founded by Mendez following a trip to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia in 2006. The foundation has already raised money to build a water well near Gilo Ager, a Ethiopian village so remote that its children are tasked to wake up daily at 3 a.m. for a three-hour roundtrip to fetch water from a river before school.

The fundraiser will further assist Well of Hope's efforts in the region.

Ticket prices for the fundraiser are $40, which will include food from Hong Kong Harbor Restaurant, Gordon Biersch and other area restaurants. Sponsorships will be available at $500 and $1,000. A portion of "Back to the Islands" CD sales will be donated to Well of Hope Foundation.
