County lawyer and former Councilwoman Bobby Jean Leithead-Todd will be the new Big Island Environmental Management director, Big Island Mayor Harry Kim announced.

In her new job, Leithead-Todd will oversee the solid-waste and sewer systems for the county. Pay for the position starts at $95,196.

Leithead-Todd served on the council from 1996 until she resigned in 2003 to work as deputy corporation counsel, a job she had previously held from 1987 to '93. She also was county legislative auditor in 1993 and '94.

Current director Barbara Bell resigned effective the end of this month because of family obligations.
