City seeking providers for youth employment training

The City and County of Honolulu's Oahu Workforce Investment Board, through its Youth Council, is inviting nonprofit agencies and, for the first time, for-profit organizations, to apply to be considered for selection to an Eligible Training Provider list to provide training and instructional services to youths under four programs.

The programs, to provide persons 14 to 21 years old with training and instruction to help them enter the work force or to improve their employment eligibility, are:

The selection of vendors to be placed on the lists of eligible training providers will be in accordance with a Request for Proposals for Qualified Vendors process, pursuant to section 103D-102(b)(4), Hawai'i Revised Statutes.
The Oahu Workforce Investment Board (OWIB) was established by the federal Workforce Investment Act of 1998 to bring together industry employers, training providers and educational institution, and adult and youth job seekers to create an effective workforce development system. OWIB ensures that this system is customer-focused and addresses both the demand of employers for a qualified work force and the need for employees to earn a living wage. In 2006, OWIB's youth programs served 1,831 youth clients.
