Maui pro Summers beats Hayashi in Mid-Pacific playoff

Maui pro Darren Summers defeated Kevin Hayashi with par on the second playoff hole to win the 49th annual Mid-Pacific Open today at Mid-Pacific Country Club.

Summers shot a 75 and Hayashi a 76 to tie after 72-holes at 2-over 290.

Both bogeyed the first playoff hole. After Hayashi missed his par putt on the second hole, Summers sank a six-footer for the victory.

David Ishii (75) and Chad Saladin (74) tied for third.

Kaua'i's Casey Watabu, the reigning U.S. Public Links champion, captured low amateur honors at 72-293.
