Rainbow Wahine lead WAC golf tournament

LAS CRUCES, N.M. Four Rainbow Wahine golfers are in the top 10 and the University of Hawai'i leads the team standings after today's first round of the Western Athletic Conference women's golf tournament at New Mexico State University Golf Course.Xyra Suyetsugu shot a 2-over-par 74 to tie for fourth. Teammates Dale Gammie, Nancy Shon and Corie Hou are tied for sixth after shooting a 75 and Lisa Kajihara is tied for 12th after shooting a 76.
The Rainbow Wahine, ranked 40th nationally, lead the team standings with a 299. Fresno State trails by six strokes at 305 and Boise State and Nevada both finished with a 306.
Defending champion and 31st-ranked San Jose State is last in the seven-team tournament with a 310.
Fresno State's Laura Luethke shot a 2-under 70 to lead the field.
Other golfers from Hawai'i competing include Idaho's Kelly Nakashima (T12th, 76, Baldwin '04), Boise State's Iris Ocariza (T16th, 77, Moanalua '06), New Mexico State's Lehua Wise (T23rd, 79, Kaua'i '03) and Jennie Pleas of Nevada (34th, 82, Kaua'i '04).
The second round will be held tomorrow and the final round is scheduled for Wednesday.
