  • Jill Takasaki Canfield has been named executive director of the Pacific and Asian Affairs Council. Canfield joined the council as its fund development director in November 2005, and was most recently associate director. The group promotes increased understanding of world affairs, particularly Asia-Pacific issues, by sponsoring speaker forums and conferences, facilitating cross-cultural exchange of international visitors, and conducting global education outreach programs at Hawai'i high schools and community colleges statewide.

  • DR. MARK MITCHELL, chief executive officer of behavioral health center Kahi Mohala, has been tapped as president of the board of directors of two of the state's leading mental-health organizations, Ho'omau Ke Ola and the Hawai'i Behavioral Health Coalition. Also, he has been named president of the National Association of Rural Mental Health. The Wai'anae-based Ho'omau Ke Ola provides substance-abuse treatment to a predominately Native Hawaiian population, based on Hawaiian spiritual values.

  • Emi Chang Espinda has been named regional sales and special events manager for Ruth's Chris Steak House and Romano's Macaroni Grill, including the two Ruth's Chris Steak Houses on O'ahu; two on Maui, and a new location at The Shops at Mauna Lani on the Big Island, as well as the flagship Romano's Macaroni Grill in Ala Moana Center. The 20-year veteran of local sales and hospitality was formerly member services and marketing director for Mid-Pacific Country Club.

  • Maui Divers Jewelry has named John Monteiro senior vice president, overseeing existing stores outside Hawai'i — including San Diego, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Las Vegas and Guam — in addition to Maui Divers Jewelry's ongoing expansion program outside Hawai'i, and its e-commerce division. The 25-year retail management veteran was, most recently, chief operating officer of Photo TLC Inc.

  • St. Francis Healthcare System of Hawai'i has promoted Sallyanne Pekelo to manager of volunteers. Pekelo joined St. Francis Hospice as a dietary aide in 1991 and has served as volunteer coordinator there since 1997. In her new position, Pekelo will be responsible for the recruitment and placement of volunteers to support the staff of the healthcare system.

  • JAMES Y. AGENA has joined escrow and title firm First Hawai'i Title Corp. as in-house counsel. He is a graduate of the University of Hawai'i School of Law, and served as a member of its Law Review. He is a partner in the law firm of Koshiba, Agena & Kubota. His concentration is commercial litigation, business law, real property and property management, bankruptcy debtor and creditor functions, foreclosure services and debt collection.

  • Food and beverage industry veteran Neville King has been named regional director of food and beverage for ResortQuest Hawai'i. Based at the ResortQuest Kaua'i Beach at Makaiwa, he will oversee food and beverage operations at three ResortQuest facilities on O'ahu, Maui and Kaua'i. He is the recipient of many awards, including "Best Chef of 2002," at the Mandarin Oriental hotel in Bermuda.

  • Carleton Ching has been promoted to vice president, community and government relations, for Castle & Cooke Hawai'i. He is a 30-year veteran of real estate and development and corporate administration .
