High surf advisory for north, west shores

Advertiser Staff

A large late April northwest swell has peaked but a high surf advisory remains in effect until noon today for northern and western shores of most islands, the National Weather Service said.

Overnight surf along northern shores was 15 to 20 feet, but it is dipping below the 15-foot advisory level by this afternoon. Overnight surf along western shores is 10 to 12 feet, but will also drop by this afternoon.

Today's forecast calls for surf 12 to 15 feet along northern shores, surf 8 to 12 feet along western shores, and surf to rise to 6 to 8 feet along eastern shores and remain at 2 to 4 feet along southern shores.

Another northwest swell is expected to arrive Thursday night and will peak Friday with surf well below advisory heights. Breezy trade winds will produce rough surf along east shores through Thursday, the National Weather Service said. The small south swell will continue through Friday. A slightly bigger south swell will arrive Saturday night.
