Land director Young rejected for confirmation

In an 15-8 vote, the state Senate voted against confirming Department of Land and Natural Resources Director Peter Young.Young's opponents cited concerns about management and what they called his inability to correct long-standing problems with the department during his four-year tenure.
"We cannot simply sit and wait for the next crisis to bring about changes in management of the department," said Sen. Russell Kokubun, D-2nd (S. Hilo, Puna, Ka'u).
