UH women drop to third in WAC golf tournament

Hawai'i shot a 24-over-par 312 today and dropped from first to third in the second round of the Western Athletic Conference women's golf championship at Las Cruces, N.M.

Idaho shot a 293 to move into first at 26-over 602 at the New Mexico State University golf course, followed by Nevada (300—606) and Hawai'i (312—611). Defending champion San Jose State (303) is at 613. The final round is tomorrow.

The best four of five individual scores counts toward the team scores.

Hawai'i's Corie Hou shot a 2-over 74 and was alone in fourth at 149. San Jose State's Eric Moston shot a 73 and was at 147, a stroke ahead of Nevada's Kelly Burke (75) and Heather Olmstead (73). Idaho's Kelly Nakashima, a Baldwin alum, shot a 75 and was tied for fifth, four strokes back.

Other UH golfers are Xyra Suyetsugu (10th, 79—153); Dale Gammie (tie for 13th, 80—155); Lisa Kajiwara (T13, 79—155) and Nancy Shon (T29, 84—159).

Other golfers with Hawai'i ties are: Boise State's Iris Ocariza (T13, 78—155, Moanalua); Nevada's Jennie Pleas (T24, 76—158, Kaua'i) and New Mexico State's Lehua Wise (32, 82—161, Kaua'i).
