Dow sets fresh trading high, but stocks end mixed

Associated Press

Stocks ended mixed Tuesday, though the Dow Jones industrials set a fresh trading high and neared the 13,000 mark after International Business Machines Corp. and Honeywell International Inc. boosted their dividends. A report from the National Association of Realtors that sales of existing homes in March had their biggest one-month decline since January 1989 weighed on stocks, as did a weak reading on consumer confidence.

  • The Dow Jones industrials rose 34.54, or 0.27 percent, to 12,953.94.

  • The Standard & Poor's 500 index fell 0.52, or 0.04 percent, to 1,480.41.

  • The Nasdaq composite index rose 0.87, or 0.03 percent, to 2,524.54.

    For the week:

  • The Dow is down 8.04, or 0.06 percent.

  • The S&P is down 3.94, or 0.27 percent.

  • The Nasdaq is down 1.85, or 0.07 percent.

    For the year:

  • The Dow is up 490.79, or 3.94 percent.

  • The S&P is up 62.11, or 4.38 percent.

  • The Nasdaq is up 109.25, or 4.52 percent.
