Punahou's Tateishi in ILH boys tennis final

WAIPI'O — Punahou senior Skyler Tateishi will defend his Interscholastic League of Honolulu/Clay Benham individual tennis championship Wednesday against teammate Reid Kiyabu at Central O'ahu Regional Park.

All finals and third-place matches are set to begin at 4:30 p.m.

The No. 1-seeded Tateishi advanced to his third straight finals by defeating another teammate, No. 5 Kevin Caulfield, 7-6 (4), 6-1 in today's semifinals. No. 6 seed Kiyabu advanced with a 7-5, 6-1 victory over No. 7 Nathan Nakatsuka of Kamehameha.

Nakatsuka had upset No. 2 Keven Wong of Le Jardin, 7-5, 4-6, 7-6 (5) in Monday's quarterfinals and Caulfield had upset No. 4-seeded teammate Erik Pang, 7-6 (4), 6-1.

In the girls singles final, No. 1 seed Kristin Lim of Punahou will face No. 2 Brooke Doane of Kamehameha.

Lim, who won a league doubles championship last year with Ashley Ohira, advanced with a 6-0, 6-3 semifinal victory over No. 4 seed Sara Yoshinaga of 'Iolani. Doane, the defending ILH runner-up, held off No. 3 seed Janelle Arita of Punahou, 6-4, 7-6 (4).

In the girls doubles final, Punahou's No. 1-seeded Ohira and Nicole Nakaoka will face No. 3 Nikki Castel and Jaime Young of 'Iolani.

Ohira and Nakaoka defeated their No. 4-seeded teammates, Kimberly Wo and Dara Azuma, 6-2, 6-1 in the semifinals.

Castel and Young defeated No. 2 Kelsey Daguio and Kelly Domingo of Sacred Hearts 6-4, 6-1.
