Collections set for unsafe items

The county will allow residents to drop off hazardous waste at two locations this weekend.

Materials will be taken at no cost from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Kapa'a and Hanalei, and Sunday at Hanapepe and Lihu'e refuse transfer stations.

Items accepted during the hazardous waste collection include aerosols, antifreeze, batteries, cleansers, fluorescent bulbs, gasoline, paint thinners, pesticides, solvents and more.

Latex paint is not considered household hazardous waste and will not be accepted.
