Public school teachers to vote on contract tomorrow

Advertiser Staff

Hawai'i public school teachers will meet tomorrow afternoon to vote on whether to ratify a new two-year contract that calls for a 4 percent raise in each of the two years as well as random drug testing.

Voting will take place from 2:45 to 4:45 p.m. at Farrington High School's cafeteria, 1564 N. King St. The contract would cover about 13,000 public school teachers.

Results of the ratification vote, as well as details of the contract settlement with the Hawai'i State Teachers Association, will be released tomorrow evening after the votes are counted, according to HSTA officials.

The contract calls for the union to work with the Department of Education to develop a random drug- and alcohol-testing program for all teachers that would be implemented by June 2008.
