Off-duty lifeguard finds body off Waikiki shore

Advertiser Staff

An off-duty Honolulu lifeguard found a body floating this morning close to shore in waters across from the Pacific Beach Hotel in Waikiki, said Bryan Cheplic, spokesman for the city's Emergency Services Department.

Cheplic said the lifeguard was fishing when he came across the body about 7:40 a.m.

The body appeared to be that of a Caucasian man, about 40 years old.

Based on the condition of the body, it apparently had been in the water at least overnight, Cheplic said.

Police were called to the scene.
